ABB won 270 million euros of Britain and France grid interconnection project

Recently, ABB announced that it will provide key high-voltage direct current technologies for the UK State Grid Corporation and the French grid company (RTE) to help the two grid to achieve interconnection.

ABB's investment in grid interconnection projects amounted to € 270 million, which will help to further integrate the UK and French electricity markets. The transmission line has a power of 1 million kilowatts, starting from Chilling, in the south of England, through the English Channel, ending at Tourbe in northern France for a total length of 240 kilometers.
 
ABB will provide two light, high pressure direct current converter stations for the project, installed in France and the UK, and connected to submarine cables. Converter station in the transmission and distribution process, commitment to AC and DC conversion function. Power is long-distance transmission is DC, before the distribution to the user, DC need to be converted into alternating current. The biggest advantage of high-voltage DC is to achieve large capacity, long-range efficient and reliable transmission, and the power loss to a minimum. These advantages will bring greater economic benefits to grid operators and achieve stable power supply for end users.
